21 –Literacy: Let’s Celebrate
Unit theme “Why do we celebrate?” This
week we focused on the question, “How do people show pride in our country?”
Math: Marshmallow and Toothpick Shapes The children
had
a blast creating and building
3-dimensional shapes using marshmallows and toothpicks.
Number Stories The children created their own number stories, drew
pictures to illustrate their stories, and wrote the corresponding number sentences
to go along with their story.
Science: The kindergartners are learning about oviparous and
viviparous animals. We read the story Chickens Aren’t The Only Ones by
Ruth Heller to help us learn about animals that hatch from eggs (oviparous) and
animals born alive and well (viviparous).
Writing: Our class continues to explore nonfiction books. The story
called I Like Pasta by Jennifer Julius helped the students learn about the different types of pasta. Then the children made a list of foods they wanted to
write about. They complied a list of
observations about Oreos; from there they were able to create their own stories
based on their observations.
