Jolly Phonics This week we worked on the letter sounds “u, l, f, b,
and ai ” in our Jolly Phonics books.
Please review these sounds and songs with your child.
Lead 21 – Literacy: Unit theme “What makes me special?”
This week we focused on the question, “What are my feelings?”
Science: The kindergarten students will be starting a new
science unit next week. It is entitled Helping
Students Protect the Environment and Live Well.
Throughout this unit the students will be learning that everything
comes from the earth. They will learn
about natural resources and the products that are made from those
resources. The students will also learn
about repurposing items. We are asking each child to bring in a large adult
t-shirt that can be cut up and made into a cloth bag. Please send the t-shirts by Wednesday,
September 24th. The students will be using the repurposed bags to keep their
resting towels in at school. Our classes will also be creating a “Dump Library”
to be maintained in our classrooms. If
you have any old books you would be able to donate to our classroom, we would
appreciate them.
Math: Math skills we worked on this week included sorting,
counting and recognizing numbers 1 to 10, and comparing body heights to objects
in the classroom.
Writing: We
read a story about a child named Titch. The children learned how to discuss the
book with a partner and generate writing topics. They then wrote about things they liked to do
with their own families.
Dot Day: International dot day is
celebrated on Sept. 15th each year. On Monday, we read the book The
Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The
children created colorful dots of their own that are on display in the
hall.
