Literacy:  We read the book Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems.  The children focused on strategies that good readers use when they read.  The strategies focused on this week include predicting, retelling details, inferring, and sharing their opinion about the story.
Math: This week the children learned that a pan balance is a type of scale that is used to compare the weights of objects.  They had a great time experimenting with different things in the classroom.
Writing: We read the story titled Freight Trains by Donald Crews. We then drew and labeled pictures of things that we thought were interesting. The pictures were then shared with the class.
Jolly Phonics: Please continue to review letter sounds at home. Thank you for working with your child on sound books, word lists, and leveled books found in the Jolly Phonics Envelopes.

Guest Visitors: A big thank you goes out to all the Veterans that were able to eat lunch with us today. We appreciate all that they have done for us!

Sharing:  Please have your child bring in an item that starts with the same beginning sound as their first name. (ie. Tammy would bring in a toy to share – both start with the /t/ sound.)
Special Event: All K-6 students attended the High School Play Seussical today. The children so enjoyed the play!  Thank you to the high school students for sharing their time and talent with us!

Jolly Phonics: This week we worked on the letter sounds “ou, oi, ue, and er” in our Jolly Phonics books.  Please review these sounds and songs with your child.  The children have also been working on learning the sight words I, me, she, he, and the.  These words show up a lot in everyday print.  Check to see if your child can identify them.

Literacy: We read the book The Recess Queen by Alexis O’Neill .  The children were excited to share the important points of the story with their families.  They brought home their retelling sheets Wednesday to help them remember the story.

Science:. The focus this week has been to explore our 5 senses through various hands on activities.  These activities include: taste testing, smelling cups, I Spy games, listening games, and feeling bags.
