Next week, we will be taking a field trip to Historic Forestville. We will learn about life long ago and experience many living and nonliving parts of the community. Students from Mrs. Leifeld’s and Mrs. Timp’s classes will go on Monday, May 18th for the field trip. Mrs. Galvin, and our class will go on Tuesday, May 19th.

Please dress for the weather! We will go rain or shine, as many parts of the day are inside buildings and we can adjust the others in case of rain. Jackets and walking shoes are a must. Winter boots and flip flops or sandals will not be appropriate for the day. Do not send umbrellas, please.
Students will be eating sack lunches from our hot lunch program.
This will be the only reminder sent home…please mark your calendars!

Bike Week -For participating in bike safety week RHSHC is giving away a limited number of bike helmets while supplies/sizes last.  If your child doesn’t have a helmet they may stop in at the Community Health Services building (next to the hospital) and pick one up.  It is first come, first serve so don’t wait!

Lead 21 –Literacy: Life All Around Us
Unit theme “What are living things?”  This week we focused on the question, “How do plants grow and change?”

Math: This week the students learned about how long an hour was and created their own paper plate clocks.
The children also learned about function machines.  When a number goes in the machine something happens to it, and a new number comes out.  For example, if the rule is +1 and the number 2 goes in the machine the number 3 will come out.  The number sentence would be 2+1=3.

Science: We have continued with the “From Seed to Plant” unit.  The children planted a classroom garden.  They also planted their very own seeds in a cup. The children also created plant spikes to help hold up the plants once they sprout and grow.

Writing: The children are exploring words through poetry.  Stories from Read-Aloud Rhymes For The Very Young by Jack Prelutsky were read and discussed.  They enjoyed visualizing and acting out the poems.

Special Activity: On Thursday, April 2nd we will be coloring Easter Eggs.  Please send two or three hard-boiled or blown eggs for your child to color.  Please talk to your child about not eating the eggs, since they are traveling to and from school and being handled by others.  We will also discuss this at school.  It works very well to transport the eggs in an egg carton. Just cut the egg carton in half and tape it closed.  The children are very excited about this activity.
