21–Literacy: Home and Family.
Unit theme “What makes a home?” This
week we focused on the question, “Why do we need a home?”
Math: This week we worked on one to one correspondence with
the numbers 1 to 8. The students had fun
with an activity called “Cornucopia Counting”.
The children glued the correct number of Magic Stars in the cornucopia with the corresponding number.
Writing: We read the story titled I Went Walking by Sue Williams. The children discussed how
authors observe the world and then write about what they notice. As a class the
children generated a list of things they observed just in our classroom. From the list the students then created their
own stories.
The
words I, see, the, and a were
displayed on to the word wall in our classroom. The students were able use the
word wall as a reference when they wrote their stories.
Jolly
Phonics: Please continue to review letter
sounds at home. Thank you for working with your child on sound books and word
lists found in the Jolly Phonics Envelopes.
Guest Visitors:
This
week we had many visitors at school. A
big thank you goes out to all the Veterans that were able to eat lunch with us
Tuesday. We appreciate all that they have done for us! On Thursday, Astronaut
Clayton Anderson visited Howard-Winneshiek. We learned about riding
in a Space Shuttle.
Sharing: Next
week please have your child bringing in something that begins with the /g/
sound. We will be working on the letter
Gg activities next week.
