21 –Literacy: Outdoor Explorers
Unit theme “What can I learn when I explore the outdoors?” This week we focused on the question, “What
can I observe as the seasons change?”
Math: This week the children learned about the passage of
time and order of events. Each child made a sequencing time line of daily
events. They drew pictures of what they did in the
morning, afternoon, and at night. The children also played Bingo to practice
reading 2-digit numbers (1-20).
Sharing:
This was our final week for sharing. We are now going to devote our scheduled
sharing time to learning Jolly Phonics Tricky Words.
Science: Our focus this week was on the story The Mitten
by Jan Brett. The children made mittens,
which they decorated and display in our room.
We used the mittens to count by two’s during math class. Check out our mitten snow people also
displayed, they look great.
FAST
Assessments: Next week the students will
be taking FAST (Formative Assessment System for Teachers) assessments. The Universal Screening materials included:
Onset Sounds, Word Segmenting, Nonsense Words, and Letter Sounds. The aReading
assessment will be the final component of the Winter FAST for Kindergarten
students. It would be beneficial for the students to be well rested and have a
nutritious breakfast all next week. The
aReading assessment will be given by the Title I teachers. The computer lab has been reserved for our
class to take the aReading assessment. The FAST results will be shared during
conferences with parents.
Jolly
Phonics: Please continue to review letter
sounds at home. Thank you for working with your child on word lists that are
sent home in the Jolly Phonics Envelopes.
